A two-day workshop organised by the Ministry of Public Works, at the conference room of the Limbe City Hall from the 18 -19 July 2024, in the presence of the delegation from the Ministry of Public Works under the leadership of the General Director of Infrastructure Works.
The representative of the Governor of the Southwest region, Mukete Joseph Nebale, chaired the opening of the workshop. The regional consultation grouped together were the Technical Adviser No 3. Of MINPW, with a host of Mayors from various division such as, Mayors from Limbe I, II and III, the Mayor of Ekondo TITI, Nguti, Alou, Bangem, Muyuka, Mamfe and even the Deputy Mayors, the Regional and Divisional Delegates of the Southwest delegation of Public Works as well and representatives of MINDEVEL, MINEPAT and all the stakeholders involved in the execution of road infrastructure.
The meeting held simultaneously with that of the other regions chaired from Yaounde by the Minister, Emmanuel Nganou Djoummessi. The main objective of this meeting is to update data on the state of road network and priorities interventions on roads as part of the 2025 budget preparation. In addition, to ensure the traffic ability of roads at all seasons and ensure that money disbursed to councils are efficiently used for the rehabilitation of communal roads in all the council areas of the south west region.
At the workshop an overall length of the road network in the South-West region is estimated at 5,364.11 km including 626.42 km of asphalt roads and 4,737.69 km of earth roads, lastly 130.82 km are being paved. The regional presentations geared towards the performance of the Regional and Local Authorities (RLAs) in connection with the resources transferred by MINTP 2024 on the pooling of PIB (Public Investment Budget) and RF ( Road Fund) splitted as follows, 2 billion goes to the councils and 520 billion FCFA to the region leading to several interventions resulting to 6,000km of asphalting new roads, rehabiliting of 3,000km of existing paved road and permantly maintaining the entire road network. 16 billion 433 million CFAF is the amount transferred to Regional and Local Authorities, with 272 million CFAF for the Regional Council and 15 billion 161 million CFAF for Councils. After the notification of resources recurrent adjustments on certain projects were made 8.40℅ of road network in good state, 12.33℅ in average condition.
The Governor representative express gratitude to the Minister of Public Works for a wonderful initiative which valuable contribute to this important exercise, which will undoubtedly lead us to a better balance between the roadworks we need to carry out and the budget allocation. The institution of the Regional and Local Authorities and the establishment of Regional Councils will speed up the process.
