Cameroon is presently basking in the prospects of harbouring a rail assemblage centre, thanks to an ongoing bilateral cooperation consertation between the Ministry of Transport and the Italian Company ‘Avantgarde’, highly endorsed by the Italian Embassy in Cameroon.
The potentiality of the project was a major point of discussion in the audience granted the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Massena NGALLE BIBEHE, to the Italian Company ‘Avantgarde’ delegation, led by the Italian Ambassador to Cameroon, Filippo Scammacca Del Murgo.
The importance of the subject matter is reflected in the delegation which accompanied Minister Jean Ernest Massena NGALLE BIBEHE: the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Transport, Director General of the Cameroon Railways (CAMRAIL), Deputy Director General at CAMRAIL, Director of Railway Transport, Head of the Studies, Planning, Programming and Cooperation Division, representatives of the Follow-up and Communication Units, representatives of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development and Autonomous Sinking Fund.
Going by Minister Jean Ernest Massena NGALLE BIBEHE, the amelioration and modernization of the railways is preoccupying and the accompaniment being proposed by the Italian Company ‘Avantgarde’ is greatly welcomed.
As disclosed by the Director of Railway Transport, a work session held with ‘Avantgarde’ on April 15, 2024, indicated a new axe of cooperation in the existing project of supplying passenger wagons.
This fresh angle of cooperation which was confirmed by the President Managing Director of ‘Avantgarde’ is the establishing of an assemblage center in Cameroon of parts of passenger wagons and other railway objects.
The next preoccupation was financing. It was established the Italian company SACE, which has some grounds in Cameroon will accompany the financing of the project.
In order to have a foretaste of what CAMRAIL is already doing in its workshops, such as producing railway parts like wagon seats, the Director General of CAMRAIL suggested ‘Avantgarde’ team visits the workshops.
The Italian Ambassador to Cameroon did not fail to acknowledge that Cameroon has both human and technical resources to host the assemblage centre.
On a conclusive note, Minister Jean Ernest Massena NGALLE BIBEHE reiterated Government’s wish to see this project come to fruition within the shortest possible time.
